Laos – Luang Namtha
The town of Luang Namtha is the administrative capital and the urban center of Luang Namtha province in north-western Lao PDR, bordering China and Myanmar. Luang Namtha has been heavily dependent on traditional forms of agriculture. However, because of its strategic position in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) corridor it has an expanding economy based around agricultural diversification and eco-tourism.
To implement the national agenda according to SDGs, the Lao government and ADB had agreed the loan for Second GMS Corridor Town Development Project (GMS2). The project is implemented by Ministry of Public Work and Transport, Department of Housing and Urban Planning (DHUP) as project coordination unit (PCU) and Luand Namtha Department of Public Works and Transport as project implementation unit (PIU). The town will construct a sludge treatment plant as well as a DEWATS for a night market. Therefore, a fecal sludge assessment with FSM Toolbox (supported by Asian Institut of Technology) and several trainings for operation and maintenance have been conducted. More info link city profile
